Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Deciding whether CAPM or PMP fits you now

Plenty of people buy CAPM materials when they already have enough led project experience to apply for the PMP, and others aim at the PMP years before they can qualify. Comparing your actual experience against both sets of eligibility rules takes an evening and tells you which exam deserves the next few months.

First tasks

  • Read the CAPM and PMP eligibility pages on the PMI website
  • List every project you have worked on with dates and your role
  • Check whether that experience already meets the PMP rules
  • Write down which credential you are pursuing and why

Current CAPM exam outline and rules check

PMI revises the CAPM Exam Content Outline, fees and retake rules, and study guides printed a few years ago may describe a different exam. An hour with the official handbook and outline before buying anything stops you studying for a version that has been retired.

First tasks

  • Download the current CAPM Exam Content Outline from the PMI website
  • Download the CAPM certification handbook and note the eligibility period
  • Write down the current fees and retake rules with today's date
  • Check the publication date of any CAPM book you already own

PMI account and membership decision

Membership lowers the exam fee and usually includes digital copies of the PMI standards you will study from, but it has its own yearly cost and a local chapter fee is optional on top. Working out the numbers once tells you whether joining before you apply saves money or simply adds a renewal you will forget.

First tasks

  • Create a PMI account using the name on your passport or national ID
  • Compare the exam fee for members and non-members with the membership cost
  • Look up whether a local PMI chapter runs student or new-member events
  • Record your membership decision and the renewal date if you join
  • Check your PMI membership renewal date and decide whether to keep it @recurring(yearly)

Make it yours.

Install CAPM Certification, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
