Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

CKA curriculum and candidate handbook folder

The Linux Foundation and the CNCF publish the CKA curriculum as a list of domains and competencies, and the candidate handbook sets the rules on retakes, allowed documentation, ID and the exam environment. Both change, and the Kubernetes version the exam runs on moves forward several times a year.

First tasks

  • Download the current CKA curriculum from the Linux Foundation training site
  • Copy each domain and its competencies onto one page
  • Save the candidate handbook and mark the rules on documentation, ID and retakes
  • Note the current fee, duration, passing score and validity period with today's date

Kubernetes and Linux skills audit against the CKA domains

Most candidates are strong in one corner, such as writing deployments or running Linux servers, and weak in another, such as etcd, certificates or CNI networking. Rating yourself against every competency in the curriculum, with one quick practical check for each, shows where the hours should go before you spend money on a course that repeats what you already know.

First tasks

  • Copy every competency from your domain map into a skills grid
  • Try one small hands-on check for each competency and rate it
  • Add a row for Linux terminal skills and rate it honestly
  • Mark the five lowest-rated competencies as your first study targets

Baseline timed task set before any study

A CKA score depends on finishing tasks correctly within the time, so a knowledge quiz tells you little. Working through ten practical tasks against a timer on day one gives a speed and accuracy baseline you can compare every later mock against, and shows whether your problem is knowledge, speed or both.

First tasks

  • Pick ten practical tasks from a free CKA question set covering every domain
  • Run all ten against a timer with only the allowed docs open
  • Record time and pass or fail for each task
  • Write two lines on whether knowledge, typing or searching cost you most

Make it yours.

Install CKA Kubernetes Administrator, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
