Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

What counts as one of your first hundred

A hundred newsletter sign-ups and a hundred teams paying every month are different companies, and founders who never define the word quietly count whichever number looks better that week. Deciding in writing what makes someone a customer, such as paid at least once, or used the core feature three times in a fortnight, gives every later target and review a fixed meaning.

First tasks

  • Write one sentence that says exactly what makes someone a customer
  • Add a second sentence defining an active customer and its time window
  • Decide whether friends, family and free trials count toward the hundred
  • Pin both definitions at the top of the customer tracker

First hundred customer tracker

Early customers arrive through a dozen doors, and within a month nobody remembers whether customer twelve came from a forum post, a cousin or a cold email. One simple sheet with a row per customer, where they came from, when they started and whether they are still active is the record every later decision in this area is built on.

First tasks

  • Create the tracker with source, start date and status columns
  • Enter every current customer and warm prospect you can name
  • Agree a short fixed list of source labels
  • Add a formula that counts customers and active customers
  • Tidy the tracker, merge duplicates and update statuses @recurring(monthly:27)

Narrow first segment for the first fifty

Selling to everyone who might want the product spreads a founder's week across ten audiences that each need different words, proof and places. Choosing one tight segment for the first fifty, such as independent physiotherapy clinics with two to five staff, means one message, one set of communities and customers who can vouch for you to each other.

First tasks

  • List three segments that already feel the problem you solve
  • Score each on pain, reachability and how often its members talk to each other
  • Write the chosen segment as a one-paragraph description
  • List the segments you will defer until customer fifty

Make it yours.

Install First Hundred Customers, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
