Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Partner conversation on what the startup asks of home

Most founder partners agree to the company in general and then discover the specifics: the evenings, the salary cut, the weekend investor calls. A single planned conversation, held before the next big commitment such as a raise or a hire, puts the real asks on the table so your partner is choosing them with you rather than absorbing them.

First tasks

  • List the hours, travel, salary and risk the next year will ask of home
  • Book a two-hour slot with your partner with childcare arranged
  • Write down your partner's conditions in their own words
  • Agree a date three months out to revisit the note together

Family red lines the company never takes

Without named exceptions, every family commitment becomes negotiable the moment a customer or investor asks for the slot. Agreeing a short list of protected things, such as bedtime on school nights, birthdays and one weekend day, gives you a ready answer and gives your family something they can count on.

First tasks

  • Draft ten candidate red lines and cut them to the eight that matter most
  • Agree the final list with your partner over a quiet evening
  • Block every red line as recurring busy time in your work calendar
  • Tell your co-founder which slots are off limits and why

Household savings floor and personal guarantee rules

Founders under pressure put family savings into payroll or sign a personal guarantee on an office lease, and the household learns about it later. Agreeing a savings floor the company never touches, and which personal risks need a joint yes, protects the home from the company's worst month.

First tasks

  • Work out three months of real family spending from bank statements
  • Agree the savings floor figure and where that money is held
  • List every personal guarantee or loan you have given the company
  • Write the joint-yes rules on one page and both sign it

Make it yours.

Install Founder and Family Life, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
