Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Checking the current PRINCE2 scheme and edition

PRINCE2 has been revised several times, and the 7th edition changed practice names, added people and project context as themes, and brought sustainability into tolerances, so a second-hand book or an old course can teach you the wrong syllabus. Spend an hour on the awarding body's website before you buy anything, and every later choice is made against the exam you will actually sit.

First tasks

  • Open the awarding body's PRINCE2 page and note the current edition
  • Copy the Foundation and Practitioner exam formats from the candidate guidance
  • Check which credentials are accepted in place of Foundation for Practitioner entry
  • Note how long Practitioner stays valid and how it can be renewed

Choosing between a training course and self-study

Accredited training organisations sell PRINCE2 as classroom, virtual or self-paced e-learning, often bundled with exam vouchers, and prices for the same content can differ several times over. Self-study with the manual and a voucher can work for experienced project people, while newcomers usually pass faster with a trainer who drills the Practitioner question style.

First tasks

  • List three providers or routes that teach the current edition
  • Check each provider against the awarding body's accredited partner register
  • Ask each provider whether exam vouchers and a free resit are included
  • Record the chosen route and its total cost in the purchase decision

Getting the official PRINCE2 manual

Only the official manual for the current edition may be used in the open-book Practitioner exam, so it is the one book you must own, know and be able to search fast. Getting it early lets you read it alongside your course rather than meeting it for the first time a week before the exam.

First tasks

  • Check whether your course already includes a copy of the official manual
  • Confirm which manual formats your Practitioner sitting accepts
  • Buy the current edition in the allowed format
  • Skim the contents pages and mark where each practice and process starts

Make it yours.

Install PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
