Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Choosing between PSM I and CSM

Two credentials dominate Scrum Master hiring: Scrum.org's PSM I, which you can sit without a course, and Scrum Alliance's CSM, which comes with a required live course and a renewal cycle. The right one depends on how you learn, who is paying and what employers in your market ask for, so settle it before spending money on either.

First tasks

  • Search ten Scrum Master job adverts and note which credential each names
  • Read the PSM I page on Scrum.org and the CSM page on Scrum Alliance
  • Write the cost, course and renewal terms of each in a two-column note
  • Choose your first credential and write down why

Current Scrum Master assessment rules check

Assessment formats, pass marks, time limits, attempt rules and fees change, and blog posts from three years ago still circulate as if current. One hour on the awarding body's own pages gives you facts to plan around and stops you training for an assessment that has moved on.

First tasks

  • Open the official assessment page and note the format, time limit and pass mark
  • Write down the fee and the second-attempt rules with today's date
  • Read the candidate terms on which materials are allowed
  • Confirm which Scrum Guide version the assessment uses

First careful read of the Scrum Guide

Every mainstream Scrum Master assessment is built on the Scrum Guide, a short document whose exact wording decides many questions. Reading it slowly once, with a pen, before any course or book, means later material gets checked against the source rather than replacing it.

First tasks

  • Download the current Scrum Guide from scrumguides.org
  • Read it in full in one sitting with a pen and no other sources
  • Highlight every must, should and may as you go
  • List ten questions the guide leaves you unsure about

Make it yours.

Install Scrum Master Certification, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
