Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Choosing your Black Belt certifying body

Black Belt credentials range from an exam-only certificate to ones that demand signed, completed projects, and employers and recruiters weigh them very differently.

First tasks

  • List the Black Belt routes open to you, including any employer programme
  • Copy each body's current project and exam requirements into one table
  • Ask two hiring managers in your sector which credential they rate
  • Record the chosen route and the reason in your plan

Reading the current Black Belt body of knowledge

Every Black Belt exam is written against a published body of knowledge, and the bodies revise theirs every few years, adding topics such as lean flow or organisational change and dropping others. Working from the live version of your chosen body's document, rather than an old textbook's contents page, keeps your study hours pointed at what is examined now.

First tasks

  • Download the current Black Belt body of knowledge from your certifying body
  • Copy the exam format and reference material rules into your plan with today's date
  • Rate your confidence on every subtopic from one to three
  • Check the certifying body's site for a revised body of knowledge @recurring(yearly)

Project evidence and eligibility check

Some bodies certify a Black Belt only after one or two completed projects with a signed statement from a sponsor or champion, and some also ask for years of work experience in the body of knowledge; others need nothing beyond the exam. Checking your own history against the exact rules now tells you whether past projects can count, what proof they need, and whether the exam or the project is your real critical path.

First tasks

  • Read the eligibility and project affidavit rules on your certifying body's site
  • List past improvement projects with your role, sponsor and measured result
  • Ask former sponsors whether they would still sign for those projects
  • Write the eligibility verdict and the number of projects still needed

Make it yours.

Install Six Sigma Black Belt, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
