Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Freezer clear-out and first stock count

Most freezers hold a layer of unlabelled tubs, half bags of peas and a lasagne nobody remembers making, and that clutter hides both the space and the food you already have. Emptying it once, binning what cannot be identified and counting what is left gives you a true starting point before a single batch is cooked.

First tasks

  • Pick an evening this week when the freezer will be at its emptiest
  • Empty each drawer into cool bags and bin anything you cannot identify
  • Sort what is left into ready meals, components, raw ingredients and treats
  • Write a dated count of each group and stick it inside a cupboard door

Measuring how many meals your freezer holds

Twenty family portions from a cook day are useless if the freezer can only take twelve once the peas and ice lollies are in. Measuring the usable space in litres and testing it with your actual containers tells you the real ceiling for a cook day.

First tasks

  • Find the freezer's capacity in litres from the manual or the model number
  • Measure each drawer's width, depth and height with a tape
  • Test pack one drawer with filled containers or bags of water
  • Write the maximum number of meals on the freezer count sheet

Freezer container system that stacks

Mixed takeaway tubs, odd lids and round pots waste a third of the freezer and make every search a dig. Settling on two or three container sizes that stack, survive the freezer and go into the oven or microwave, and buying enough for a full cook day, is the single biggest upgrade to a stash.

First tasks

  • List the five meals you freeze most and the portion size each needs
  • Compare three container sets on stacking, lids, reheating and price
  • Buy enough containers in your chosen sizes for one full cook day
  • Recycle every container that has lost its lid
  • Check lids for cracks and replace the damaged ones @recurring(yearly)

Make it yours.

Install Batch Cooking & Freezer Meals, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
