Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Interview format check for each target firm

Firms run cases differently: some let the candidate drive, some lead you question by question, some add written exercises or digital assessments, and formats change between seasons. Checking each firm's current careers pages and asking a recent hire before you practise means your hours go into the format you will actually face.

First tasks

  • List every firm you plan to interview with this season
  • Read each firm's current interview preparation page and note the case style
  • Ask one recent hire per firm how their rounds actually ran
  • Mark which firms use candidate-led and which use interviewer-led cases

Baseline diagnostic case with a scored debrief

Before practising anything you need to know where you start, and most candidates guess wrong about their own weak spot. One full case with a partner who scores you on structure, maths, charts, synthesis and communication gives a baseline that every later case can be compared against.

First tasks

  • Ask an experienced case partner to give you an unseen case this week
  • Agree the five scoring dimensions with the partner before you start
  • Write down the two moments where you lost the thread
  • Record the scores as the first entry in your log

Case practice log and scoring rubric

Fifty cases with no record teach less than twenty logged ones, because patterns only show when you can see them across weeks. A simple log with a fixed rubric turns every practice case into a data point and makes your weekly review a ten-minute job.

First tasks

  • Write the five rubric dimensions with what a 3 and a 5 look like
  • Set up the log with date, partner, case type, scores, strength and fix
  • Enter the baseline case and any cases already done
  • Add a running average per dimension at the top of the log

Make it yours.

Install Consulting Case Interview Prep, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
