Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Readiness conversation before moving in together

Many couples slide into living together because a lease is ending or one flat is always empty, and only later discover they meant different things by it. A deliberate conversation about why now, what each of you expects and what would make you want to wait gives the decision a foundation you both chose. Have it before anyone signs a lease or gives notice.

First tasks

  • Write your own three reasons to move in now and one reason to wait
  • Ask your partner to write their own list before you talk
  • Set aside a phone-free evening to compare the two lists
  • Record the decision and, if you chose to wait, the date you will revisit it

Whose place, or a fresh start somewhere new

Moving into a home one partner already lives in is cheaper and quicker, but the newcomer can feel like a long-term guest in someone else's space. Starting fresh somewhere neither of you has history costs more in deposits and removals and gives you an equal claim from day one. Comparing the options on cost, commute, space and fairness settles the question on evidence instead of on whoever argues longest.

First tasks

  • List the realistic places you could live together
  • Note the monthly cost and both commutes for each option
  • Say honestly how you feel about moving into the other's current home
  • Agree one option and write down why it won

Living habits compatibility map

Different standards for washing up, noise late at night, thermostat settings and how often friends drop round cause more friction in the first year than any big disagreement. Mapping your habits side by side before the move shows where you already match and where you will need a deal, so surprises become agenda items rather than arguments.

First tasks

  • Draft twelve everyday habits worth comparing, from washing up to bedtimes
  • Fill in your own answers honestly before seeing your partner's
  • Compare the answers and circle the three biggest gaps
  • Agree a first compromise for each gap and write it beside it

Make it yours.
