Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Move-home decision and target arrival date

Most returnees talk about going home for years before anything happens, and a vague someday makes every other step impossible to plan. Writing down why you are going, who is coming, which country and parish you are aiming for, and a target arrival month turns the idea into something the household can actually prepare for. A date also fixes the countdown for shipping, notice periods and school terms.

First tasks

  • Write your three main reasons for moving home on one page
  • Ask each adult moving with you to write their own reasons and worries
  • Agree a target arrival month and a fallback month
  • Tell your closest relatives back home the plan and the month

Returning resident eligibility check

Several Caribbean governments offer returning nationals a once-only concession on duty for household effects and often a vehicle, run through units such as Jamaica's Returning Residents Facilitation Unit, the Barbados Facilitation Unit for returning nationals or Guyana's remigrant scheme.

First tasks

  • Find your home country's official returning resident or returning national page
  • Note the minimum years abroad, vehicle rules and claim window it gives
  • Email the facilitation unit or customs department with your open questions
  • Save the replies with the date in your move folder

Returning resident document folder

Customs, the tax office, the bank and the licensing authority back home will each want originals or certified copies, and a missing marriage certificate can hold up a container on the wharf. One folder, paper and scanned, holding every identity and status document for each person moving means you can answer any request in minutes instead of weeks.

First tasks

  • List every identity and civil document each person moving will need
  • Scan each document into one secure folder named by person
  • Order replacements for anything missing, starting with birth certificates
  • Check every expiry date in the document table and renew what is close @recurring(yearly)

Make it yours.

Install Returning Resident Move Home, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
