Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Target role brief for the CV rewrite

Rewriting a CV without a target produces a polite list of duties that fits no job in particular. Writing down the one or two job titles you are aiming for, the seniority, the sector and the locations gives every later edit a test: does this line help a reader hiring for that role? Do it first, in under an hour, before touching the document itself.

First tasks

  • Write the one job title you would accept tomorrow at the top of a new note
  • Add seniority, sector, location and salary band beneath it
  • List the three proofs a hiring manager for that role would look for first
  • Decide whether a second target is close enough to share one CV

Keyword map from ten target job ads

Recruiters and applicant tracking systems search for the words the job ad uses, not the words your current employer uses. Collecting ten live ads for your target role and counting which skills, tools and qualifications appear most often shows you the vocabulary your CV must contain and the gaps you cannot hide.

First tasks

  • Save the text of three live job ads for your target role today
  • Collect seven more ads from at least two different job boards
  • Ask the agent to count recurring skills, tools and qualifications across the ten ads
  • Mark each of the top fifteen terms as evidenced or a gap

CV or resume format for your target country

Conventions differ more than people expect: a UK or Caribbean CV usually runs to two pages, a US resume to one, some European employers still expect a photo and date of birth while US and UK employers generally do not want either. Settling the length, page size, spelling and personal details for the country you are applying in avoids looking out of place before anyone reads a line.

First tasks

  • Name the countries where you will apply in the next six months
  • Find one official careers service guide for each country's CV norms
  • Record length, paper size and spelling for each country
  • Decide on photo, date of birth and nationality for each version

Make it yours.

Install CV & Resume Rewrite, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
