Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Reasons and shape of a late-career pivot

Most pivots after 50 start from a push (a restructure, a new boss, fatigue) rather than a pull, and a pivot built only on escape tends to land in a similar job with less pay. Writing down what you want more of, what you want less of and roughly how many more working years you expect gives every later decision in this area something to be checked against.

First tasks

  • Spend twenty minutes listing what you want more of and less of in work
  • Mark each reason as a push away or a pull towards
  • Write how many more years you expect to work and in what shape
  • Draft a one-paragraph pivot statement and save it

Pension and retirement savings statements gathered

After 30 years of work many people hold pensions from four or five employers, some long forgotten, plus a state pension whose start age and amount they have never checked. Getting every statement into one place shows what income is coming, from when, and whether a lower-paid pivot is affordable without guessing.

First tasks

  • List every employer you have worked for since leaving education
  • Request a state pension forecast from the official government service
  • Contact each scheme or a pension tracing service for current statements
  • Put each pension, its value and access age on one summary page

Minimum earnings figure for the next chapter

Pivots fail quietly when nobody has worked out how much the new work actually has to pay. Setting a monthly figure that covers fixed costs, savings you still want to make and the gap before pensions start tells you which roles, day rates and part-time hours are genuinely open to you.

First tasks

  • Total last month's household outgoings from your bank statements
  • Separate the fixed costs from those you could cut
  • Work out the monthly gap between outgoings and expected pension income
  • Convert the gap into a salary, a day rate and an hourly rate

Make it yours.

Install Late-Career Pivot (50+), then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
