Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current BSSEE format and reform status check

Barbados has been reforming how children move from primary to secondary school, so before anyone buys a workbook, confirm that your child's year still sits the Secondary Schools' Entrance Examination and in what form. A one-page summary written from the Ministry's own notices and the school's letters tells you which papers to prepare for and which dates everything else counts back from.

First tasks

  • Check the current BSSEE format and timetable on the Ministry's website and note the source
  • Ask the Class 4 teacher which circulars the school has received about this year's exam
  • Write a one-page summary of papers, dates and deadlines
  • Re-check the Ministry's notices for changes to the exam or placement @recurring(quarterly)

Starting point diagnostic in English and Mathematics

Most Class 4 children are stronger in one subject than the other, and parents often guess wrong about where the gaps sit. An untimed English set and an untimed Mathematics set in the first weeks of term show which topics are losing marks, so the months of practice go to the right places.

First tasks

  • Pick one recent English practice set and one Mathematics set at Class 4 level
  • Sit the English set on one afternoon and Mathematics on another, untimed
  • Mark both sets and write the topic beside each wrong answer
  • Rank the six weakest topics and share them with the Class 4 teacher

Class 4 study corner at home

Children who do homework on the sofa with the television on take longer and remember less. A fixed corner with a table, good light, a clock the child can read, a pencil case that stays put and a shelf for papers makes each session start in two minutes rather than twenty, even in a small house or a shared bedroom.

First tasks

  • Choose the quietest spot in the house for afternoon study
  • Put a clock where the child can see it from the table
  • Stock a box with pencils, eraser, ruler, protractor and lined paper
  • Restock the study box and file loose papers into folders @recurring(monthly:10)

Make it yours.

Install Barbados Common Entrance (BSSEE), then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
