Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current CAPE Law syllabus and paper format check

CAPE Law is taken as two units, each examined on its own, and in recent editions Unit 1 covers the Caribbean legal system, public law and criminal law while Unit 2 covers tort, contract and real property, three modules in each. Both units are examined through a multiple-choice Paper 01, a written Paper 02, and either the internal assessment as Paper 031 or the alternative Paper 032 for private candidates.

First tasks

  • Check the current syllabus and timetable on the CXC website and note the paper format
  • Note which unit you are sitting this year and its three module titles
  • Ask your teacher for the school's internal assessment deadlines
  • Recheck the syllabus edition at the start of each school year @recurring(yearly)

Diagnostic CAPE Law paper and first problem answer

Students who did well in CSEC essay subjects often expect Law to be about memorising rules, then lose marks on problem questions that ask them to apply a rule to invented facts and reach a conclusion. Sitting one past Paper 01 and one Paper 02 problem question early, without notes, shows which areas you already hold and how far your answers are from the structured reasoning examiners reward.

First tasks

  • Get a past or specimen Paper 01 and Paper 02 for your unit from your teacher
  • Sit Paper 01 in one go with no notes and mark it against the key
  • Answer one Paper 02 problem question against the clock
  • Tally wrong answers by module and circle the three weakest objectives

CAPE Law study plan across both units

Six modules, two sittings and an internal assessment for each unit add up to more work than a term of good intentions can carry, especially when most students take Unit 1 in Lower Six and Unit 2 a year later. A written plan that gives every module a block of weeks, fixes the study evenings and places the internal assessment stages beside them stops the last module being rushed in April.

First tasks

  • Count the weeks from today to the unit's exam sitting
  • Give each of the three modules a block of weeks in syllabus order
  • Mark the school's internal assessment deadlines on the same plan
  • Pin the plan on the wall above your desk

Make it yours.

Install CAPE Law, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
