Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Syllabus, set texts and paper format check

Set texts for CAPE Literatures in English change on a cycle, so a list inherited from an older cousin can leave you annotating the wrong novel for weeks. Checking the current syllabus and set-text list on the CXC website before you read a page means every hour after this goes on the right books, and you know how each paper and the internal assessment are set for your sitting.

First tasks

  • Download the current CAPE Literatures in English syllabus from the CXC website
  • Copy the set texts for your unit and sitting year into your notebook
  • Write how Paper 01, Paper 02 and the internal assessment are set
  • Confirm the text choices with your teacher in the next lesson

Annotated personal copies of every set text

Annotation is how literature students think on paper, and you cannot underline a library copy or a book you have to hand back to a sibling. Owning every set text in the edition the class uses means page references match in lessons and your margins quietly become your revision notes.

First tasks

  • Ask last year's Upper Six students for second-hand set texts
  • Check each copy's edition against the class list
  • Choose a three-colour annotation key and write it inside each cover
  • Annotate the first act or chapter of each text

Two-year reading plan for Units 1 and 2

Most schools teach Unit 1 in Lower Six and Unit 2 in Upper Six, and each unit carries its own drama, poetry and prose, which is a heavy reading load next to two or three other CAPE subjects. Laying both years out on one plan, with the internal assessment and mocks marked, shows you where the crowded terms are before they arrive.

First tasks

  • Ask your teacher for the order the set texts will be taught
  • Draw a two-year grid with one column per term
  • Schedule each first read a few weeks ahead of class teaching
  • Add the internal assessment stages and mock exam dates
  • Pin the plan where you study and send a photo home

Make it yours.

Install CAPE Literatures in English, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
