Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

CAPE Physics syllabus and paper format check

CXC revises its syllabuses, and the CAPE Physics described in a borrowed revision guide or by last year's class may not match the one you will sit. An hour with the current syllabus shows the six modules across the two units, what Paper 01, Paper 02 and the internal assessment each test, and how private candidates are assessed instead, so all the practice that follows rehearses the real exam.

First tasks

  • Check the current syllabus and timetable on the CXC website and note the paper format
  • List the modules of both units and their main topics on one page
  • Write what Paper 01, Paper 02 and the internal assessment each test
  • Ask your teacher to confirm the summary is right

Deciding between Unit 1 alone and both units

CAPE units are certified separately, so some students sit Unit 1 in Lower Six and Unit 2 in Upper Six, while others take a different path because of their subject combination or university plans. Settling the route early, with your teacher and a parent, decides how fast the timetable runs and which modules matter this year.

First tasks

  • Ask your physics teacher how students at your school usually sit the two units
  • Look up how many physics units two target programmes ask for
  • Talk the options through with a parent for twenty minutes
  • Write the decision and the sitting year at the top of your timetable

Diagnostic CAPE Physics paper and starting profile

Knowing where marks are leaking stops you spending the term on topics you already handle. A recent past paper written at home and marked against the mark scheme shows whether the weakness is the physics, the mathematics, the definitions or the time, and gives a starting score to measure every later paper against.

First tasks

  • Pick a recent Paper 01 and Paper 02 that match the current format
  • Write both papers at home in single timed sittings
  • Mark them against the mark scheme or hand them to your teacher
  • Sort every lost mark by module and by cause

Make it yours.

Install CAPE Physics, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
