Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

CAPE Pure Maths syllabus and paper format check

Before any notes are written, the current CAPE Pure Mathematics syllabus from the CXC website should be on your desk, because it is the only document that says what each module covers, how Paper 01, Paper 02 and the internal assessment fit together, and what private candidates sit instead. Unit 1 and Unit 2 are separate examinations, so note the format for each and the date of every paper on the current timetable.

First tasks

  • Download the current CAPE Pure Mathematics syllabus from the CXC website
  • List the sections of all six modules on one page in syllabus order
  • Note the format of Paper 01, Paper 02, Paper 031 and Paper 032 for your unit
  • Check the current CXC timetable and note your Pure Maths paper dates

Taking Unit 1, Unit 2 or both in one year

Most schools teach Unit 1 in Lower Six and Unit 2 in Upper Six, but some students sit both units in one year, and some only ever need Unit 1. The right choice depends on what the degree you are aiming at asks for, how many other units you carry and how secure your Add Maths left you, so it is worth deciding on purpose rather than by default.

First tasks

  • Look up whether two target degree programmes ask for Unit 1 only or both units
  • Write out your full CAPE unit load for Lower Six and Upper Six
  • Ask your maths teacher whether your Add Maths grade suggests extra preparation
  • Record the unit plan and its reasons, and share it with a parent

Bridging diagnostic from CSEC Add Maths to CAPE

CAPE Pure Mathematics assumes most of CSEC Additional Mathematics on the first day: the factor theorem, logarithms, radians, and basic differentiation and integration. Students who skipped Add Maths, or passed it a while ago, can lose the first term to gaps that a two-hour diagnostic in September would have found.

First tasks

  • Choose twenty-five CSEC Add Maths past-paper questions across all sections
  • Sit the diagnostic in two hours with no notes
  • Mark it and total the score for each skill group
  • Agree a three-week bridging plan for the weakest skills with your teacher

Make it yours.

Install CAPE Pure Mathematics, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
