Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Add Maths syllabus and paper format check

Additional Mathematics moves fast and CXC revises the syllabus from time to time, so the first hour should go on the current official document rather than a classmate's old notes. Reading the syllabus and the latest timetable tells you which sections are examined, how Paper 01, Paper 02 and the SBA fit together, and when the exam falls, which every later plan depends on.

First tasks

  • Download the current CSEC Additional Mathematics syllabus from the CXC website
  • Note the Paper 01, Paper 02, Paper 031 and Paper 032 format from the syllabus
  • List every topic on one page under its syllabus section
  • Check the current CXC timetable and note the Add Maths exam date

Readiness diagnostic on the algebra Add Maths needs

Most Add Maths marks are lost not on the new ideas but on the algebra underneath them: expanding brackets, factorising, changing the subject, indices and fractions with letters. A short diagnostic in the first fortnight shows which of these skills are shaky, so they get fixed before calculus and logarithms lean on them.

First tasks

  • Pick twenty CSEC Mathematics algebra, graph and trigonometry questions from past papers
  • Sit them in one hour with no notes and no help
  • Mark the answers and total the score for each skill
  • Agree a two-week repair plan for the three weakest skills with your teacher

Choosing an exam-approved scientific calculator

Add Maths needs a calculator that handles logarithms, radians, fractions and statistics quickly, and it must meet CXC's rules for what is allowed in the exam room. Buying the right model early and learning it from Form 4 saves minutes in every paper and avoids a panic when an invigilator turns a calculator away.

First tasks

  • Read CXC's current rules on calculators permitted in the exam room
  • Compare two or three non-programmable scientific models and their prices
  • Buy or borrow the calculator you chose and label it with your name
  • Practise switching between degree and radian mode on a trig example

Make it yours.

Install CSEC Additional Mathematics, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
