Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Chemistry syllabus, papers and SBA format check

CXC revises its science syllabuses from time to time, and a revision book bought for an older cousin may describe papers, topics or SBA rules that no longer apply. Before any studying, get the current CSEC Chemistry syllabus, note how Paper 01, Paper 02 and the SBA are arranged, and confirm with your teacher which practicals your school marks for the SBA.

First tasks

  • Download the current CSEC Chemistry syllabus from the CXC website
  • Write the paper format and SBA requirements on one page in your own words
  • Ask your teacher which practicals and investigation count towards your SBA
  • Check the CXC timetable for the Chemistry papers once it is published

Calculator, lab coat and chemistry folder kit

Mole and titration questions are lost by students who meet their calculator for the first time in the exam room, and a lab book that falls apart by March is a problem when the SBA is moderated. Buying an approved scientific calculator, a hardback lab book, a lab coat and a ring binder now, and learning the calculator's standard form keys, removes a whole class of avoidable errors.

First tasks

  • Check the permitted calculator rules with your chemistry teacher
  • Compare two or three scientific calculator models on price and the standard form key
  • Buy a hardback lab book, goggles and a ring binder with five dividers
  • Practise ten standard form calculations on your own calculator

Personal ion chart and periodic table card

Almost every chemistry answer depends on writing a correct formula, and that depends on knowing the charges on common ions. A single laminated card with the first twenty elements, the common positive and negative ions including the polyatomic ones, and their charges becomes the reference you use every night until you no longer need it.

First tasks

  • Copy the first twenty elements with their symbols and atomic numbers onto a card
  • List the common positive and negative ions with their charges on the back
  • Ask a classmate to check the card against the textbook table
  • Laminate the card or slip it into a plastic sleeve

Make it yours.

Install CSEC Chemistry, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
