Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current CSEC English A syllabus and paper format check

CXC revises its syllabuses, and the English A that older cousins or second-hand revision guides describe may not be the one you will sit. An hour with the current syllabus and the CXC timetable tells you which papers exist, what Paper 01, Paper 02 and the SBA each test, and when your sitting falls, so every hour of practice after this rehearses the real exam.

First tasks

  • Check the current syllabus and timetable on the CXC website and note the English A paper format
  • Write each paper and what it tests on one page
  • Note your English A exam date from the published timetable
  • Ask your English teacher to confirm the summary is right

Diagnostic English A paper and starting profile

Before deciding where the year's effort goes, find out where marks are leaking. One recent past paper set, written at home and marked against the mark scheme, shows whether comprehension, summary, the story or the essay is costing most, and whether the cause is misreading questions, grammar or simply running out of time.

First tasks

  • Choose a recent past paper set that matches the current format
  • Write the papers on two quiet afternoons in the same week
  • Mark the answers with the mark scheme or hand them to your teacher
  • Record your starting score and three weakest areas in the error notebook

English A study timetable to the exam sitting

English A is required for most sixth form places, college programmes and many jobs, yet it is often squeezed out by subjects with more content to memorise. A written weekly timetable that gives it fixed slots for reading, summary, comprehension and writing, counted back from the exam date and the SBA deadlines, stops it being left to the last month.

First tasks

  • Mark the exam date and SBA deadlines on your calendar
  • Choose three to five fixed weekly slots for English A
  • Label each slot with reading, summary, comprehension, writing or SBA
  • Show the timetable to a parent or your teacher
  • Adjust the timetable for the month ahead @recurring(monthly:3)

Make it yours.

Install CSEC English A, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
