Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

English B syllabus, papers and set text check

Set texts for CSEC English B are prescribed for a run of exam years and then replaced, so the play, poems and novel an older cousin studied may no longer be on the list. Before reading a page, find out from the current CXC syllabus and your teacher exactly which texts you will be examined on, how Paper 01, Paper 02 and the SBA are arranged, and which sections give you a choice.

First tasks

  • Download the current CSEC English B syllabus from the CXC website
  • Note the paper format and which Paper 02 sections offer a choice of text
  • Ask your teacher to confirm which play, poems and prose texts your class is studying
  • Check the CXC timetable for the English B dates once it is published

Getting the right editions of your set texts

Page numbers, footnotes and even scene divisions differ between editions, so a student holding a different copy from the class loses time in every lesson. A Shakespeare edition with facing-page notes can also make the play far less of a struggle. Settling on the editions your teacher uses, bought new, second-hand or borrowed, is a small decision that pays back all year.

First tasks

  • Photograph the cover and publisher page of the class copy of each set text
  • Ask older students and the school bookshop for second-hand copies
  • Compare prices for the same editions at local bookshops and online
  • Buy or borrow every set text and the poetry anthology before the next lesson

Literature folder and annotation colour code

Notes on three genres spread across exercise books, loose handouts and phone photos are impossible to revise from in April. A single folder with a section per text, plus a simple colour code for annotating the books themselves, means every quotation, character note and marked essay has one home from the first week.

First tasks

  • Buy a binder, dividers and four colours of pens or sticky tabs
  • Write the colour key inside the front cover of each set text
  • Sort every loose literature handout into the right section
  • File loose notes and marked work into the folder @recurring(monthly:28)

Make it yours.

Install CSEC English B (Literature), then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
