Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current CSEC Human and Social Biology syllabus and paper check

Human and Social Biology is examined from a syllabus that CXC revises from time to time, and old revision books still circulate with sections in a different order or topics that have since moved.

First tasks

  • Check the current syllabus and timetable on the CXC website and note the paper format
  • List the HSB syllabus sections in their published order on one page
  • Copy the SBA skills the syllabus names onto the same page
  • Show the summary page to your HSB teacher and ask what the school adds
  • Check the CXC website for a revised HSB syllabus each September @recurring(yearly)

Diagnostic HSB past paper and topic profile

Most Form Four students guess they are weakest in genetics and strongest in nutrition, and a diagnostic paper usually tells a different story. Sitting one recent Paper 01 and two Paper 02 questions without notes, then marking them against the mark scheme, gives a section-by-section picture that decides where the first months of study go.

First tasks

  • Get one recent HSB Paper 01 and a Paper 02 from the school or the CXC store
  • Sit the multiple choice paper without notes in one sitting
  • Answer two structured Paper 02 questions and mark them with the mark scheme
  • Tag every lost mark with its syllabus section
  • Rank your three weakest sections and show your teacher

Checking HSB against CAPE, nursing and college entry plans

HSB is widely accepted as a science pass, but some CAPE science units, nursing schools, allied health programmes and overseas colleges ask specifically for Biology, Chemistry or a second science. Checking the entry rules of two or three places you might apply to, before subject choices are locked, avoids discovering in Form Six that HSB alone does not open the door you wanted.

First tasks

  • Write down two or three courses or careers you might apply for after CSEC
  • Find each one's published science entry requirement on its admissions page
  • Note whether HSB alone meets each requirement
  • Book a short meeting with the guidance counsellor about any gap
  • Record the decision and the reason in your study folder

Make it yours.

Install CSEC Human and Social Biology, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
