Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.
Current Integrated Science syllabus and paper format check
Before any revision starts, you need the syllabus your sitting will actually use, because CXC revises syllabuses and the papers can change with them. Ten minutes on the CXC website, or one question to your teacher, tells you which sections are examined, what Paper 01, Paper 02 and the SBA each look like and when the sitting falls, so nothing later is planned from an old photocopy.
First tasks
- Download the current CSEC Integrated Science syllabus from the CXC website
- Write the format of each paper on one page from the syllabus
- Ask your teacher for the school's SBA deadline and the sitting dates
- Check the CXC website for a revised Integrated Science syllabus each September @recurring(yearly)
Diagnostic past paper and three-section starting profile
Most students guess where their weak spots are, and guess wrong. Sitting one recent past paper without notes, then sorting every lost mark into the organism, the home and workplace, or the earth section, gives a starting profile that decides where the first month of study goes.
First tasks
- Get a recent past paper and its mark scheme from your teacher or the CXC store
- Sit the paper at a desk without notes or a phone
- Mark it and sort each lost mark by section and topic
- Circle the three topics that lost the most marks
Integrated Science notebook and study kit
Integrated Science runs from cells to circuits to hurricanes, and notes scattered across three exercise books are hard to revise from. One notebook split into the syllabus sections, plus graph paper, sharp HB pencils, a ruler, an eraser and an approved calculator, means every diagram, calculation and definition has a place before the topics start.
First tasks
- Divide a thick notebook into tabbed sections, one per syllabus section
- Buy graph paper, HB pencils, a sharpener, a ruler and an eraser
- Ask your teacher which calculators are allowed in the exam room
- Sort last year's class notes into the new sections
