Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current CSEC Physics syllabus and paper format check

Physics textbooks used around the region were written for several versions of the syllabus, and a revision guide handed down from an older cousin may spend whole chapters on content that has moved or been dropped.

First tasks

  • Check the current syllabus and timetable on the CXC website and note the paper format
  • List the five syllabus sections and their topics on one summary page
  • Note which equations, constants or data the syllabus says are given in the exam
  • Share the summary page with your physics teacher and anyone who helps you study
  • Check the CXC website for changes to the physics syllabus each September @recurring(yearly)

Diagnostic past paper and physics starting profile

Before revision starts it pays to know whether marks leak from the physics itself, from rearranging equations, from missing units or from never reaching the last question. Sitting one recent Paper 02 calmly at home and marking it with the official mark scheme, section by section, gives a starting score and a short list of weak topics that decides where the next months go.

First tasks

  • Download or borrow one recent Paper 02 and its mark scheme
  • Sit the paper at a clear table with your phone in another room
  • Mark the script line by line, counting marks for working and units
  • Tag each lost mark with its syllabus section
  • Write the starting score and three weakest topics in the error log

Scientific calculator, ruler and graph paper kit

Physics papers expect a working scientific calculator, a clear ruler, a protractor and sharp pencils for graphs and ray diagrams, and a student who borrows a different calculator on exam morning loses minutes hunting for the standard form button. Choosing the kit early, checking it against the CXC calculator rules and practising with the same items all year removes one avoidable problem.

First tasks

  • Read the CXC calculator rules and note what is allowed
  • Compare two or three permitted scientific calculator models and prices
  • Buy a transparent ruler, protractor, pencils and a graph paper pad
  • Practise standard form and inverse sine entries until they are automatic
