Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current CSEC Principles of Accounts syllabus and paper format check

CXC examines Principles of Accounts through a multiple-choice Paper 01, a written problem-solving Paper 02, and either the SBA as Paper 031 or the alternative Paper 032 for private candidates, and the details change between syllabus editions. One evening with the current syllabus and the CXC timetable means every later project is aimed at the exam you will sit, not the one in an older sibling's textbook.

First tasks

  • Check the current syllabus and timetable on the CXC website and note the paper format
  • Write the syllabus edition year inside the cover of your accounts folder
  • List the fourteen syllabus sections on one page in syllabus order
  • Ask your teacher which sitting and SBA arrangement the school uses

Diagnostic Paper 01 for Principles of Accounts

Sitting one multiple-choice paper early, without notes, shows which ideas you already hold (debit and credit, assets and liabilities) and which are guesswork. Sorting the wrong answers by syllabus section turns a general fear of accounts into three named topics to fix first.

First tasks

  • Get a past or specimen Paper 01 from your teacher or the CXC online store
  • Sit the paper in one go with only a calculator
  • Mark it and tally the wrong answers by syllabus section
  • Circle the three sections with the most errors

Two-year Principles of Accounts study plan

Most schools spread CSEC Principles of Accounts over Forms Four and Five, with the SBA running through the second year and the exam in May or June. A month-by-month plan that places each section, the SBA deadlines and the revision weeks stops the usual crush where partnerships, companies and payroll are still untouched at Easter.

First tasks

  • Ask your teacher for the scheme of work for both years
  • Place each syllabus section in the month it will be taught
  • Mark the SBA dates and mock exam weeks on the plan
  • Compare where the class is against the plan @recurring(monthly:26)

Make it yours.

Install CSEC Principles of Accounts, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
