Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current CSEC Technical Drawing syllabus and paper format check

Technical Drawing is examined through a multiple-choice paper, a drawing paper and an SBA drawing project, and the sections, options and conventions it expects are set out in the current CXC syllabus, not in an older student's notes.

First tasks

  • Download the current Technical Drawing syllabus from the CXC website
  • Check the current timetable on the CXC website and note the paper format
  • List every syllabus section and both option areas in order on one page
  • Ask your teacher for the school's SBA deadline and which option the class takes

Choosing between the building and mechanical drawing options

After the shared geometry, candidates specialise in either building drawing or mechanical engineering drawing, and the choice shapes your SBA and a large part of Paper 02. Some schools teach only one option, so the decision may already be made; where you do have a choice, base it on the drawings you enjoy, the careers you are considering and which teacher can supervise your SBA.

First tasks

  • Ask your teacher whether the school offers both options or only one
  • Read two past Paper 02 questions from the building option
  • Read two past Paper 02 questions from the mechanical option
  • Record your chosen option and the reason in your study plan

Drawing instruments and kit bought before the first term

A wobbly compass and a chipped set square cost marks on every construction, because accuracy to the millimetre is what the examiner checks. Buying a sound kit once, a spring-bow compass, 45 and 30-60 set squares, a protractor, a scale rule, pencils or leads in two grades and a good eraser, is cheaper than replacing poor ones every term.

First tasks

  • Get the equipment list from your Technical Drawing teacher
  • Price each item at two stationery shops or bookstores
  • Test compass and set square accuracy before you pay
  • Label every instrument with your name

Make it yours.

Install CSEC Technical Drawing, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
