Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Visual Arts syllabus, papers and expressive form check

CSEC Visual Arts is assessed through finished studio pieces, a reflective journal and written work on art history and design, and the exact arrangement of papers, themes and deadlines changes whenever CXC revises the syllabus. Before buying a single tube of paint, read the current syllabus, list the expressive forms it offers and note how each paper and the school-based assessment are marked.

First tasks

  • Download the current CSEC Visual Arts syllabus from the CXC website
  • Write down the paper format and how the reflective journal is assessed
  • List the expressive forms in the syllabus and which ones your school offers
  • Ask your art teacher for the school's internal submission dates

Choosing your expressive forms

The syllabus asks you to produce work in a set number of expressive forms, and the ones you pick decide your materials, your studio hours and how much you depend on school equipment such as a kiln or a printing press. Choosing on the strength of your own baseline work, the real time each form takes and what your school can support beats choosing whatever a friend picked.

First tasks

  • Check how many expressive forms the syllabus asks for and from which sections
  • Score each form your school offers for skill, time, cost and equipment
  • Make a quick trial piece in your two strongest options
  • Confirm your choice with your art teacher before buying materials

Art supply kit on a student budget

Art materials can quietly cost more than any other CSEC subject, and many students buy a large boxed set only to find half of it useless for their chosen forms. Building a kit from a list matched to your expressive forms, with good paper and a few quality brushes instead of many cheap ones, keeps the cost down and the work looking better.

First tasks

  • Ask your art teacher which materials the school supplies
  • Draft a materials list for your expressive forms
  • Compare prices at two suppliers and agree a budget with a parent
  • Buy the starter kit and pack it in a labelled box

Make it yours.

Install CSEC Visual Arts, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
