Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current CPEA format and timetable check

Before any revision starts, you need the current facts from the source: which subjects are tested externally, what the coursework includes, how the papers are set out and when the external test is sat. CXC publishes CPEA guidelines and specimen material, and your Ministry of Education confirms the local dates and how results are used for secondary placement.

First tasks

  • Check the current CPEA guidelines and timetable on the CXC website and note the paper format
  • Ask the class teacher for this year's coursework and class test dates
  • Look up the Ministry of Education notice on the CPEA and secondary placement
  • Write the one-page summary and pin it above the study table

Four-subject starting point check

Most Grade 6 children are secure in one or two subjects and quietly struggling in another, and the gap is far easier to close in September than in April. A short untimed set of questions in each of the four subjects, marked together, shows where the hours should go and gives a baseline to measure against later in the year.

First tasks

  • Pick one short practice set per subject from a CPEA practice book or specimen paper
  • Have your child do one subject per evening without a time limit
  • Mark each set and list the three question types most often wrong
  • Repeat a fresh set in each subject to measure progress @recurring(quarterly)

Grade 6 coursework deadlines map

Coursework is done in school across the year and counts toward the final CPEA result, so a missed draft in November can cost more than a bad morning at the external test. Mapping every piece, from writing portfolio items to the investigation and class tests, with its due date gives parents and child the same picture the teacher has.

First tasks

  • Ask the teacher for the coursework schedule for this school year
  • List each piece with its subject, due date and where it is done
  • Add every due date to the family calendar with a one-week reminder
  • Ask which pieces must be completed in class without help from home

Make it yours.
