Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current FM syllabus, study guide and exam format pack

ACCA publishes the Financial Management syllabus and study guide for each exam year, and second-hand textbooks or forum summaries are often a version behind. Saving the current documents, the exam format page and the formulae sheet from ACCA's website, with the date you checked, gives every later project an official reference instead of a rumour.

First tasks

  • Download the FM syllabus and study guide for your exam year from ACCA's website
  • Write the current exam format on one page with the date you checked it
  • Print the formulae sheet and maths tables provided in the exam
  • List the syllabus areas in ACCA's order at the top of your study plan
  • Recheck ACCA's FM page for syllabus changes and announcements @recurring(quarterly)

Checking FM exemptions and your place in the ACCA route

Some accounting and finance degrees carry an exemption from FM, so the first question is whether you need to sit it at all. Checking your exemption status, the Applied Knowledge exams still outstanding and any rule about which exams must come first avoids paying for an exam you could have claimed, or entering for one you are not yet allowed to take.

First tasks

  • Run your degree and other qualifications through ACCA's exemptions search
  • Save the exemptions result and note whether FM is included
  • Check ACCA's current rules on which exams must be passed before FM
  • Claim and pay for any exemptions you are entitled to

Choosing your FM exam session and entry deadline

FM is sat in fixed exam sessions rather than on demand, and the entry fee rises as you move from early to standard to late entry. Picking a session that leaves enough study weeks, then entering in the early window, saves money and gives the study calendar a fixed end date.

First tasks

  • Look up the next two FM session dates and their entry windows on ACCA's site
  • Count the study weeks available before each session
  • Enter for the chosen session during the early entry window
  • Save the entry confirmation and note the test centre

Make it yours.

Install ACCA Financial Management (FM), then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
