An hour on ACCA's own SBL pages gives you the current syllabus sections, the exam format, how professional skills marks are awarded and the session dates, all from the source.

First tasks

  • Download the current SBL syllabus and study guide from the ACCA website
  • Write the exam format and professional skills marking on one page in your own words
  • Copy the next four exam session dates and booking deadlines into your calendar
  • Recheck ACCA's SBL pages for syllabus, fee and session changes @recurring(quarterly)

Exam record, exemptions and route position check

Before booking, confirm where SBL sits in your own route: which Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams are passed or exempt, what ACCA currently says about the order of the Strategic Professional exams, and whether your subscription is paid. A missing exemption or a lapsed subscription found at booking time can cost a whole session.

First tasks

  • Log in to myACCA and save a copy of your exam record and exemptions
  • Read ACCA's current guidance on the order of Strategic Professional exams
  • Raise any missing result or exemption with ACCA and keep the reference
  • Pay the ACCA annual subscription before its renewal date @recurring(yearly)

Ethics and Professional Skills Module before SBL

ACCA's Ethics and Professional Skills Module works on ethical judgement, communication, commercial awareness and scepticism, the same skills the SBL professional marks reward, and ACCA has advised completing it before attempting SBL. Finishing it early turns it into SBL preparation rather than a membership box ticked at the end.

First tasks

  • Check ACCA's current advice on when to complete the professional skills module
  • Block two evenings a week in the calendar for the module units
  • Note every idea from the units that would earn a professional skills mark
  • Confirm the module shows as complete on your ACCA record
