Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Strategic Professional options rules and syllabus check

Four options sit inside ACCA's Strategic Professional level, and you need two of them alongside Strategic Business Leader and Strategic Business Reporting. ACCA revises syllabuses, study guides, examinable documents and the rules on exam order each year, so the current pages on ACCA's website are the only safe starting point. Half an hour reading them now stops you studying last year's version of an exam.

First tasks

  • Download the current syllabus and study guide for AFM, APM, ATX and AAA
  • Write down each option's exam structure as ACCA states it, with today's date
  • Note ACCA's current rules on option choice, exam order and any completion time limit
  • Recheck ACCA's options pages for syllabus and rule changes @recurring(quarterly)

Choosing your two options against your career plan

Picking two options is the one decision in this area that shapes years of work after qualifying, yet many students choose on rumoured pass rates alone. AFM suits corporate finance and treasury, APM suits management accounting and business partnering, ATX suits tax practice and AAA suits an audit career, and each builds on a different Applied Skills exam.

First tasks

  • List the job roles you want in five years and the option each one draws on
  • Score AFM, APM, ATX and AAA against the same five criteria
  • Ask a qualified colleague which options they would choose for your role
  • Write down your two options and the reason for each

Brought-forward knowledge check from FM, PM, TX and AA

Every option assumes you still know its Applied Skills foundation: AFM builds on FM, APM on PM, ATX on TX and AAA on AA, with financial reporting knowledge behind AAA too. If years have passed since those exams, the gaps show up as lost marks in the first weeks of option study. A short self-test on the earlier paper's core topics tells you what to refresh before the new material starts.

First tasks

  • Find the brought-forward knowledge section in each chosen option's study guide
  • Attempt one timed question from the earlier Applied Skills exam on each core topic
  • Rank the topics where you lost the most marks
  • Rework the top three gaps before opening the option study text

Make it yours.

Install ACCA Strategic Professional Options, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
