Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Choosing the institute that fits where you work

Most Caribbean countries have their own institute of chartered accountants, and the one that matters is usually the one where you live, work or intend to sign accounts, not the one nearest your exam centre. Settling this first, before paying any fee, avoids joining a body whose membership your employer or regulator does not recognise.

First tasks

  • Find the membership page of the institute in the country where you work
  • Ask your manager or firm which institute membership they expect
  • List any other island where you may need to sign or practise
  • Write down the institute you will apply to and why

Admission route for ACCA members

ACCA members are the largest group joining Caribbean institutes, and several institutes admit them on the strength of full ACCA membership rather than ACCA exam passes alone. Confirming the exact conditions, such as whether you need full ACCA membership first, local experience or a minimum period of residence, tells you whether you can apply this month or must finish something with ACCA first.

First tasks

  • Download the institute's admission rules for ACCA members
  • Check your ACCA status and admission date in your ACCA account
  • Mark each admission condition as met, in progress or not met
  • Email the membership office any condition you cannot interpret

Admission route for US CPA holders

Holding a US CPA licence, or having passed the CPA exam without a licence, is treated differently from institute to institute, and some ask CPA holders to show local law or tax knowledge before admission. Finding out whether the institute needs an active licence from a state board, a verification letter or an extra local module stops you assuming an exam pass is enough.

First tasks

  • Find the institute's admission rules for CPA holders
  • Confirm whether you hold an active licence and from which state board
  • Ask the membership office if a local law or tax module is required
  • Write down every gap between your status and admission

Make it yours.

Install Caribbean Accountancy Body Membership, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
