Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Level III exam structure and window check

Level III changed more than any other level when the specialised pathways arrived, so notes from a colleague who sat it a few years ago may describe a different exam. Reading CFA Institute's current pages for your exam year tells you how the core and pathway content are split, how item sets and constructed-response questions are mixed, which windows are open and when registration and scheduling close.

First tasks

  • Open CFA Institute's Level III exam page and note the current format
  • Copy the topic weight ranges for the core and each pathway
  • Write down the windows, registration deadline and scheduling deadline
  • Save the page as a dated reference note

Choosing your Level III specialised pathway

Choosing between Portfolio Management, Private Wealth and Private Markets decides a share of what you study and is usually fixed when you register, so it deserves an evening of thought rather than a guess at checkout. The best pick usually matches the work you do now or want to do next, but how much practice material exists and how the readings suit your strengths matter too.

First tasks

  • List the readings for each of the three pathways from the curriculum outline
  • Score each pathway against your current and next role
  • Check how much practice material exists for each pathway
  • Record your choice and the last date it can be changed

Registration, scheduling and ID name match

Registering and scheduling are separate steps, and test centre seats in busy cities fill well before the scheduling deadline. A mismatch between the name on your CFA Institute account and your passport is a known reason candidates are turned away on the day. Doing all three checks in one sitting, early, removes the most avoidable way to lose a window.

First tasks

  • Register for the window and pathway you chose
  • Book the test centre appointment as soon as scheduling opens
  • Compare the account name with your passport letter by letter
  • File the registration and appointment confirmations in one folder

Make it yours.

Install CFA Level III, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
