Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

Current FAR Blueprint and exam format check

Review courses, forum posts and older textbooks still quote FAR formats from before the CPA Evolution changes, and the AICPA updates the Blueprint as new standards become testable. Saving the current FAR Blueprint, the sample test and the AICPA's pages on question types and testing windows, with the date you checked, gives every later project an official source instead of a colleague's memory.

First tasks

  • Download the current FAR Blueprint from the AICPA website
  • Write FAR's content areas and skill levels on one page in the Blueprint's wording
  • Note the question types and testing window rules from the AICPA or NASBA pages
  • Recheck the AICPA's FAR pages for Blueprint updates and new testable standards @recurring(quarterly)

FAR scope map against the BAR discipline section

Since CPA Evolution, some advanced financial reporting topics that FAR once covered sit in the Business Analysis and Reporting discipline instead, and older review material does not always make the split clear. A topic-by-topic map of what the current FAR Blueprint tests, and to what depth, stops you spending weeks on content FAR no longer examines or skipping something it still does.

First tasks

  • List each FAR content group and skill level from the Blueprint
  • Mark the topics your review course labels as BAR content
  • Compare the FAR and BAR Blueprints for topics that appear in both
  • Pin the finished scope map at the front of your FAR notes

Deciding where FAR sits in your section order

Candidates argue about whether to take FAR first while intermediate accounting is fresh or later once exam technique is settled, and the right answer depends on your credit window, your job's busy season and which discipline you plan. Making the decision on paper, with the credit rule and your work calendar in front of you, keeps one demanding section from squeezing the time left for the others.

First tasks

  • Read your board of accountancy's current rule on how long section credit lasts
  • List your four sections with a target month for each
  • Mark busy season and other heavy work months on the same calendar
  • Choose a fallback month for FAR in case it has to be sat again

Make it yours.

Install CPA Exam FAR Section, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
