Where it starts.

Each project arrives with its purpose, milestones and first tasks written out. Here is how the first three read.

REG blueprint and exam format check

Before buying a course or booking a date, read the current REG blueprint and exam pages published by the AICPA, because the section changed substantially when the CPA Exam moved to the core and discipline model and older guides still describe the previous version.

First tasks

  • Download the current REG blueprint from the AICPA website
  • Copy the five content areas and their allocation ranges into your notes
  • Confirm the exam length, structure and passing score on the AICPA or NASBA site
  • List the topics now tested in the Tax Compliance and Planning section instead
  • Recheck the AICPA REG pages for blueprint or policy updates @recurring(quarterly)

State board application and Notice to Schedule for REG

Each state or jurisdiction board sets its own rules for who may sit the CPA Exam, and nothing can be booked until the board, or NASBA acting for it, accepts your application and issues a Notice to Schedule for REG. Applications often stall on a missing transcript or an unpaid fee, so starting early and tracking every document keeps weeks of study from being wasted while you wait.

First tasks

  • Read your board's CPA Exam eligibility page and note the education it requires to sit
  • Request official transcripts from each college the board lists
  • Submit the application and pay the REG section fee
  • Set a reminder for the expiry date printed on your Notice to Schedule
  • Check how many days remain before your Notice to Schedule expires @recurring(monthly:20)

Where REG fits in your section order

Candidates may take the sections in any order, and REG is a common first or last choice for different reasons: tax staff who prepare returns every day often start with it, while auditors frequently place it after FAR because the entity and property topics overlap. Choosing the slot deliberately, with your credit window and work calendar in view, keeps the tax law in your materials current on the day you sit.

First tasks

  • List the tax and law modules you have taken and the tax work you do now
  • Mark your employer's busiest months on a twelve-month calendar
  • Write down the section order and the reason REG sits where it does
  • Check which tax year will be tested in the quarter you plan to sit

Make it yours.

Install CPA Exam REG Section, then tell Aurum the date you're aiming for. It checks whether the plan fits the weeks you actually have.
