CTP eligibility and experience evidence

AFP only lets you sit the CTP once you meet its eligibility rules, which combine work experience in corporate finance or treasury with education that can count toward part of it. Checking the current rules against your own CV now, and gathering the evidence a reviewer could ask for, means you never pay for a window you cannot yet take.

First tasks

  • Read AFP's current CTP eligibility requirements and save the page
  • List each finance or treasury role with dates and main duties
  • Match your roles and degree against the eligibility route
  • Ask a manager or former manager to confirm your experience if needed

CTP application, testing window and booking

Applying, being approved to test and booking a seat are three separate steps, and seats at popular test centres near the end of a window go first. Choosing your window, submitting the application early and booking a date fixes the deadline every other project in this area counts back from.

First tasks

  • Check the current CTP testing windows and fees on AFP's website
  • Choose a window clear of your busiest close and reporting weeks
  • Submit the CTP application and save the confirmation
  • Book your test appointment as soon as you are authorised
  • Put the last free rescheduling date in your calendar

Current CTP exam content outline

The CTP is written against a published content outline that sets out the domains and how much of the exam each carries, and AFP revises it as treasury practice changes. Working from the current outline, rather than a colleague's memory of the exam, tells you where study hours earn the most marks.

First tasks

  • Download the current CTP content outline from AFP
  • Copy each domain and its stated share into a single table
  • Mark each topic as familiar from work, studied before or new
  • Note anything that differs from the outline your materials were written for
